Options dialog - General tab
You use the General tab of the Options dialog to specify a number of general options relating to the way in which Project Viewer operates.

To access the Options dialog, click the File tab, then click Options.

Short format | Click this radio button to display dates using the short format as set up in Windows®. |
Long format | Click this radio button to display dates using the long format as set up in Windows. |
Annotations | Select this check box to include the time display with dates in annotations, or clear the check box to display dates only in annotations. |
Dialogs | Select this check box to include the time display with dates in dialogs, or clear the check box to display dates only in dialogs. |
Spreadsheet | Select this check box to include the time display with dates in the spreadsheet, or clear the check box to display dates only in the spreadsheet. |
Decimal (4.4w) | Click this radio button to display durations as a decimal number, for example 4.6w or 11.75m. |
Mixed time units (4w 2d) | Click this radio button to display durations using a combination of time units, for example 4w 3d or 2d 11h. If you select this option, specify the maximum number of types of time unit that you want to use to display a duration in the field below. |
Compact (4:2) | Click this radio button to display durations using the compact names specified for each time unit on the Time Unit Properties dialog in Asta Powerproject (which may be characters such as exclamation marks or asterisks). |
Maximum number of mixed time units displayed in a duration | Specify the maximum number of types of time unit that you want to use to display durations when you display them in mixed format. For example, 4w 3d uses two types of time unit, while 1y 3m 2w uses three. |
Show multiple chart headers |
When you select more than one chart or summary task in the project view, the contents of the selected charts are displayed together in the bar chart. You can choose to display a summary task representing each chart when you select multiple charts in the project view, indicating the chart in which each task is located.
Select this check box to display a summary task representing each chart when you select multiple charts in the project view, or clear the check box to display only the contents of each selected chart. |
Short format |
Select this check box to display the name of the code only in sub-headings for banded sorts/groups that sort/group by code library, or clear the check box to prefix the code name with the words 'Code Library:', followed by the name of the root code library.
For example, if you are sorting/grouping by a code library called Department with the following hierarchy: |
Sort correct dates for active filters | Select this check box to use the dates of visible tasks only in a filtered view to calculate the bar start and finish dates, or clear the check box to use the dates of all tasks on a bar to calculate the bar start and dates, even if some of the tasks are not visible as they do not meet the filter criteria. |
Most recently used list - Number of items | Specify the number of recently opened projects that can be listed on the Recent tab of the Backstage view. |
Tab Options | Click this button to display the Tab Display Options dialog, which you can use to configure the way in which views are displayed in tabs. |
How do I...

Click the Short Format or Long format radio button in the Date format group.

Select the appropriate check boxes in the Show time with dates group to display times as well as dates in annotations, dialogs and the spreadsheet, or clear the check boxes to display dates without precise times.

- Select the duration format you want to use in the Duration format group.
- If you use the mixed time units duration format, specify the maximum number of types of unit to use when displaying durations.

Select the Show multiple chart headers check box to display a summary task for each selected chart, or clear the check box to display only the contents of each selected chart.

Select the Short format check box to display the name of the code only in sub-headings for banded sorts/groups that sort/group by code library, or clear the check box to prefix the code name with the words 'Code Library:', followed by the name of the root code library.

Select the Sort correct dates for active filters check box to use the dates of visible tasks only in a filtered view to calculate the bar start and finish dates, or clear the check box to use the dates of all tasks on a bar to calculate the bar start and finish dates, even if some of the tasks are not visible as they do not meet the filter criteria.

Select the number of files in the Most recently used list field. You can access the files that appear in this list instantly by selecting them from the Recent tab of the Backstage view.
