Opening an IFC model

You use the Select IFC model control in the Model group on the BIM tab of the Ribbon to open IFC models and IFC group models. If you are working with IFC files that are stored in the Elecosoft BIMCloud®, you must log into the Elecosoft BIMCloud in order to open IFC models that correspond to the IFC files that are stored there.

The Select IFC model control displays a dropdown list of all the IFC models and IFC group models in the project. IFC models are indicated using a IFC model graphic; IFC group models are indicated using a group model graphic. If more than one revision of an IFC model exists, you can choose to open any of the available revisions. The control displays "None" when no IFC model is currently open.

To open an IFC model or IFC group model:

  1. On the BIM tab, in the Model group, click Select IFC model. A dropdown list of all the IFC models and IFC group models in the project appears.
  2. If more than one revision of the corresponding IFC file exists, a + symbol appears to the left of the IFC model name. Click the + to expand the list and view all of the revisions of the IFC file. You can choose to open any of the available revisions. Note that the latest revision always appears at the bottom.
  3. Click the IFC model or IFC group model that you want to open. If the IFC model - or one of the IFC models in an IFC group model - corresponds to an IFC file that is stored in the Elecosoft BIMCloud and you are not currently logged into the Elecosoft BIMCloud, you are prompted to log in. If it is not already visible, the IFC Model pane appears, displaying a 3D view of the selected IFC model or IFC group model; if a different IFC model was displayed in the pane before, that IFC model is closed automatically before the newly-selected IFC model or IFC group model appears.

You can also open an IFC model or IFC group model by selecting its row on the BIM tab of the Backstage view and clicking Open Model.

If you have more than one project file open in Powerproject BIM and the IFC model or IFC group model that is currently open is referred to by both project files, the Select IFC model control in the Model group on the BIM tab of the Ribbon updates to display the name of the corresponding IFC model or IFC group model Library Explorer object if you switch from one project file to another. If you have more than one project file open and the IFC model or IFC group model that is currently open is not referred to by one of the project files, the Select IFC model control in the Model group on the BIM tab of the Ribbon updates to display "Undefined" if you switch from a project file that refers to the IFC model or IFC group model to a project file that does not refer to the IFC model or IFC group model.
