Assigning codes to tasks and allocations
Assign a code to a whole bar, task or allocation by doing any of the following:
- Select the bar, task or allocation, then select a code from the
control on the Object Edit toolbar. Right-click this control to select a different code library.
- Drag the code from Library Explorer or the project view and drop it on the bar, task or allocation.
- Use the Codes section of the Bar or Task tab of the Bar and Task Properties dialog or on the appropriate Allocation Properties dialog.
In addition to the techniques above, you can assign a code to a task or allocation by right-clicking the task or allocation then selecting Assign Code and choosing a code from the hierarchy of code libraries.
To assign the same code to all the tasks on a bar, select the bar then assign the code to any selected task on that bar.
Depending on the way in which each code library has been set up, you may be able to assign more than one code from a single code library to an object. To add a second and subsequent codes from a code library to an object by drag and drop, drag the code from the project view or Library Explorer and hold down CTRL as you drop it onto the object.
Once you have assigned codes to bars and tasks, you can filter and sort/group on bars or tasks that have particular codes. For example, you could create a view of all tasks with a High Risk Factor code.
You can choose to display the appearance of each code library entry next to its name where it appears in the project view and in the Object Edit toolbar. Displaying the appearance of code library entries in the project view makes it easier for you to check that you are assigning the correct code to objects in the bar chart.
