Client/Server communication details dialog
You use the Client/Server Communication Details dialog to specify the method that your Asta Powerproject client should use to connect to the server, or servers, on which projects are located.
The way that you do this depends on whether your deployment of Asta Enterprise includes a Windows-based or a web-based Server Admin:
- If your deployment of Asta Enterprise includes a Windows-based Server Admin, the server location details must match those that are specified in Server Admin. In this type of deployment, Asta Powerproject clients can connect to servers using one of two methods, and if a client connects to more than one server, it can use a different method to communicate with each one. You must specify all the communication methods that are used by a client to connect to its servers.
- If your deployment of Asta Enterprise includes a web-based Server Admin, the server location details comprise 'http://', followed by the name of the server machine on which Server Admin is installed, then a colon, then a port number - 5400 by default - for example http://PROJECTSERVER:5400.

To access the Client/Server Communications Details dialog, click the File tab, click Open, click Enterprise, then click Server Locator.
This dialog is not available in Asta Powerproject standalone or Asta Powerproject SaaS.

Field | Description |

Asta Powerproject Name Server |
Asta Enterprise deployments with a Windows-based Server Admin
Select this check box if you are using the Asta Powerproject Name Server server location method, in which you run an application called the Asta Powerproject Name Server which holds details of all Enterprise servers that are currently running. The Asta Powerproject Name Server publishes details of the Enterprise servers to the clients, without the clients having to connect to each server individually. The Asta Powerproject Name Server must be running at all times in order for clients and servers to connect to it.
You must use this server location method if Asta Powerproject clients are to connect to a server over the Internet, as it is the only server location method that is Internet-capable.
Enter the IP address or hostname of the computer on which the Asta Powerproject Name Server is running in the field to the right of the check box. You can only enter one IP or hostname in this field, as you can only use one Asta Powerproject Name Server to access your Enterprise servers.
Asta Enterprise deployments with a web-based Server Admin
Select this check box and enter 'http://', followed by the name of the server machine on which Asta Enterprise is installed, then a colon, then a port number - 5400 by default - for example http://PROJECTSERVER:5400. |
Shared Folder |
Select this check box if your Asta Enterprise deployment includes a Windows-based Server Admin and you are using the Shared Folder server location method, in which you specify a shared folder to which both your clients and your Enterprise servers have access. When you start an Enterprise server, it places a file into the folder you specify. The clients use the files that are places into the folder by your servers to identify which servers are currently available.
Enter the drive and path of the folder that you have shared in the field to the right of the check box. You can specify the path directly (for example \\servername\foldername\) or using a mapped network drive (for example T:\foldername\). |
