Security Group Properties dialog - Chart Access Rights tab
You use the Chart Access Rights tab of the Security Group Properties dialog to specify the access rights that members of the selected security group have to charts within the project hierarchy. The project hierarchy is displayed in the box on the left of the dialog, under the programme chart, including expanded and summary tasks.

To access the Security Group Properties dialog, right-click a security group in Library Explorer and select Properties.

The dialog displays the following field on the left:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Project hierarchy |
A hierarchical representation of the charts and summary groups that make up the programme of projects.
Click a chart or summary group in this field to select it. You can then configure the security group's access rights to the selected chart or summary group using the fields on the right of the dialog. In order to assign the members of a security group access rights to a subchart, they must have at least read-only access to its parent chart.
When you have set rights for a chart, it is displayed in bold, unless you have set it to have the same rights as its parent. |
The dialog displays the following fields and buttons relating to whichever chart or summary group is currently selected in the Project hierarchy field:
Field/Button | Description |
---|---|
Access rights grid | A list of all bar chart objects and the access rights that the members of this security group have to edit them. Select an object to give members of the security group those rights for that type of bar chart object. Members of the security group are automatically given Read access to bars and tasks when rights for any of the other objects are enabled. |
Select All | Click this button to select all the access rights check boxes for all bar chart objects. |
Unrestricted | Click this button to give members of the security group full access to all the selected bar chart objects. |
None | Click this button to give members of the security group no access to all the selected bar chart objects. |
All As Parent | Click this button to give members of the security group the same access rights to the selected chart or summary group as they have to its parent chart. |
Enter progress | Select this check box to allow members of the security group to enter progress on tasks and allocations. This box is enabled if members of the security group have only Read access to bars and tasks or allocations so that they can enter progress even though they do not have full rights to modify the objects. If members of the security group have Modify access to bars and tasks or allocations, they automatically have rights to enter progress. |
Delete progress | Select this check box to allow members of the security group to delete completed sections of tasks and allocations, or clear the check box to specify that they cannot delete completed sections. |
Move chart | Select this check box to allow members of the security group to move the chart around the project hierarchy when other access rights are denied for the chart. If you deny members of the security group create, delete and modify rights for a chart, select this check box to enable them to move the chart, or clear the check box to prevent them from moving the chart. If they have full access rights to a chart, clear the check box. |
Copy | Select this check box to enable members of the security group to copy data within the selected chart, or clear this check box to prevent them from doing anything within the chart that would cause a copy of the data to be made. |
Available in Project Viewer | Select this check box to make the selected chart available when a member of the security group opens this project in Elecosoft's free project viewing software - Project Viewer - or clear this check box to hide the chart when the project is opened in Project Viewer. |
Baseline | Select this check box to enable members of the security group to baseline the selected chart, or clear the check box to prevent them from baselining the chart. |
Book out | Select this check box to enable members of the security group to book out the selected chart for remote editing, or clear the check box to prevent them from booking out the chart. |
Reschedule | Select this check box to enable members of the security group to reschedule the selected chart, or clear the check box to prevent them from rescheduling the chart. |
Income | Select this check box to give members of the security group access to income amounts in the project. Members of the security group must have at least read rights to bars and tasks to have access to income amounts. If they have read and create rights to bars and tasks, then they will also have read and create rights to income amounts. |
Expenditure | Select this check box to give members of the security group access to expenditure amounts in the project. Members of the security group must have at least read rights to bars and tasks to have access to expenditure amounts. If they have read and create rights to bars and tasks, then they will also have read and create rights to expenditure amounts. |
Float | Select this check box to give members of the security group access to float values in the project. Members of the security group must have at least read rights to bars and tasks to have access to float values. |
How do I...

- Select the chart for which you want to specify access rights.
- Use the check boxes to specify access rights for the bar chart objects within the selected chart: select a check box to assign access rights or clear a check box to deny access rights.
- Specify whether members of the security group have the right to enter progress on tasks and allocations using the Enter progress check box.
- Specify whether members of the security group have the right to delete completed sections of tasks and allocations using the Delete progress check box.
- If you want members of the security group to be able to move a chart around the project hierarchy, but not to be able to edit the contents of the chart, deny the access rights for the chart and select the Move chart check box. This turns a chart into a fixed task set - a chart or subchart that a user is able to move around the project hierarchy, but is not able to edit.
- Specify whether members of the security group have the right to copy data within the selected chart using the Copy check box. If you clear this check box, they cannot do anything within the chart that would cause a copy of the data to be made - and therefore cannot paste the information within the chart into another chart or project. You may want to prevent members of a security group from copying data from within particularly sensitive charts or projects.
- Specify whether you want to make the selected chart available when a member of the security group opens this project in Elecosoft's free project viewing software - Project Viewer - using the Available in Project Viewer check box. Clearing this check box is a simple way of hiding charts that contain sensitive information from users of Project Viewer.
- Specify whether members of the security group have the right to baseline the selected chart using the Baseline check box.
- Specify whether members of the security group have the right to book out the selected chart for remote editing using the Book out check box.
- Specify whether members of the security group have the right to reschedule the selected chart using the Reschedule check box.
- Specify whether members of the security group have access rights to income, expenditure and float information using the check boxes in the Field access group.
