Find Library Object dialog

You use the Find Library Object dialog to search Library Explorer for Library Explorer objects with names containing a particular alphanumeric string.

To access the Find Library Object dialog, on the Home tab, in the Editing group, click Find when working in Library Explorer.

Find what

Enter an alphanumeric string that you want to search for in Library Explorer object names. For example, enter Civil Engineer to find objects called 'Civil Engineer'.

 

You can use wildcards to search for objects with names that do not match the string that you enter precisely. For example, enter Civil Engineer* to search for objects with names beginning with 'Civil Engineer'. If you have named your Library Explorer objects carefully, this could, for example, enable you to find all of the objects that relate to a Civil Engineer, such as a permanent resource, a calendar and a work pattern.
Match case Select this check box to make the search case-sensitive, or clear the check box to search for the string you have entered regardless of case. If you make the filter case-sensitive, searching for objects with a name of 'Order0001' will not return objects with a code of 'order0001' or 'ORDER0001'.
Search in current folder only Click this radio button to search for objects with names that match the string in the current folder only.
Search in current folder and all subfolders Click this radio button to search for objects with names that match the string in the current folder and in any subordinate folders.
Search in all folders Click this radio button to search for objects with names that match the string in all Library Explorer folders.

How do I...

  1. Enter an alphanumeric string in the Find what field. For example, enter Project Cost Centre to find objects called 'Project Cost Centre'.
  2. Select the Match case check box to make your search case-sensitive, or clear the check box to search regardless of case. For example, if you search for Project Cost Centre and select the Match case check box, Asta Powerproject will find objects called 'Project Cost Centre', but not tasks called 'project cost centre', 'Project cost centre', 'PROJECT COST CENTRE' and so on.
  3. Specify the scope of your search in the Search scope group.
  4. Click Find Next. Asta Powerproject finds the first object that matches the string and highlights it in Library Explorer.
  5. Click Find Next again to locate the next matching object. When there are no matching objects, Asta Powerproject closes the dialog.

By default, Asta Powerproject only finds objects that match the alphanumeric string precisely. For example, if you search for Engineer, Asta Powerproject will find not find objects such as 'Engineer Cost Centre' or 'Engineer Resource'. You can search for objects with names that include your string by using asterisks, as illustrated below:

*string* Bars and tasks containing a specified string. Enter *calendar* to find 'Calendar', 'Default Calendar' and 'Calendar Engineer'.
