Add Spreadsheet Column dialog
You use the Add Spreadsheet Column dialog to find the spreadsheet field that you want to display in a spreadsheet column. Depending on the way in which you access this dialog, the field you select will be added to the spreadsheet in a new column to the left of an existing column, in a new column to the far-right of the spreadsheet, or in a column that replaces an existing column.
You can find the field you want by typing a few characters of the field's name. For example, if you type 'per', Asta Powerproject will suggest all fields that start with the characters 'per' - or, if you prefer, all fields that contain the string 'per' somewhere in their name. This is useful if you know the name of a field but do not know which category it belongs to.

To access the Add Spreadsheet Column dialog, either:
- Right-click the heading of a spreadsheet column and select Add Column - Search for Column (to add a new column to the left of an existing column).
- Right-click the heading of a spreadsheet column and select Field - Search for Column (to replace an existing column with a different column).
- Click the heading of a spreadsheet column (this is an optional step) then, on the View tab, in the View Data group, click the Add Column dropdown and select Search for Column. This will add a new column to the far-right of the spreadsheet unless you first clicked the heading of an existing column, in which case the existing column will be replaced with the new column.

Field | Description |
---|---|
Field name |
Type a few characters of the name of the field that you want to add to the spreadsheet. For example, if you type 'per', Asta Powerproject will suggest all fields that start with the characters 'per' - or all fields that contain the string 'per' somewhere in their name, depending on whether you have clicked Starts with or Contains.
As you type, the fields that match the characters you are typing appear in the field list. |
Starts with | Click this radio button to find fields that start with the characters that you type in the Field name field. With this radio button clicked, typing 'start' in the Field name field would find fields such as 'Start' and 'Start constraint date', but would not find fields such as 'Actual start' or 'Chart start'. |
Contains | Click this radio button to find fields that contain the characters that you type in the Field name field. With this radio button clicked, typing 'start' in the Field name field would find fields such as 'Start', 'Start constraint date', 'Actual start' and 'Chart start'. |
Field list | The fields with names that match the characters you type in the Field name field appear here. Click a field to select it. |
Allow spreadsheet to grow to accommodate new columns |
If you are adding a new column to the spreadsheet - as opposed to replacing an existing column with a different one - select this check box to allow the divider between the spreadsheet and bar chart to move automatically to the right if required, to display all the columns that are included the spreadsheet, or clear the check box to add the new column without moving the spreadsheet/bar chart divider.
If you clear this check box when adding a column, this may result in one or more columns at the far-right of the spreadsheet being hidden from view unless you move the spreadsheet/bar chart divider manually. |
Add | Click this button to add a column to the spreadsheet that displays the field you have selected. |
Close | Click this button to close this dialog without adding a column to the spreadsheet. |
How do I...

- In the Field name field, type a few characters of the name of the field that you want to add to the spreadsheet.
- When the field you are looking for appears in the field list, click it to select it.
- Click Add to add a column to the spreadsheet that displays the field you have selected, or click Close to close the dialog without adding a column to the spreadsheet.
