Categorising filters
You can use filter categories to classify the filters in your project. You create filter categories in Library Explorer. You can create as many filter categories as you like, then place individual filters into appropriate categories.
Categorising filters in this way makes it easier to find the filter you are looking for, for example when selecting a filter to apply to the current view. Whenever you select a filter, they are arranged into their categories, with any filters that do not belong to a category being displayed below the filter categories that do exist.
To create a new filter category:
- Open Library Explorer.
- Open the Filter Category library. All existing filter categories appear in the list view.
- Right-click a blank area of the list view and select New Filter Category. A new filter category appears in the list, with the cursor flashing in the Name column.
- Enter a name for the filter category and press Enter.
- Close Library Explorer.
You can now assign the category that you have created to filters within the project. To assign a category to a filter:
- On the View tab, in the View Data group, click the Filter dropdown and select More Filters. The More Filters dialog appears.
- If the filter that you want to place within the category is currently within a different filter category, select the filter category that is currently assigned to the filter in the Category field.
- Select the filter to which you want to assign the category and click Properties. The Filter Properties dialog is displayed.
- Select the filter category that you want to assign to the filter in the Category field.
- Click OK.
If you no longer require a filter category in a project, you can delete it in Library Explorer. Note that before you can delete a filter category you must first assign a different category to any filters to which the category that you want to delete is currently assigned.
