Viewing a task's complete chain of linked predecessor tasks

You can display the complete chain of linked predecessor tasks that lead up to a task, from the earliest task(s) in the chain(s) to the task itself, by displaying the current view in 'path to task' mode. When displaying the current view in this mode, you can choose to include all linked predecessor tasks, or only those that are linked by driving links - ie links that 'drive' the tasks at the end of them.

To display the current view in 'path to task' mode:

  1. Select the task whose predecessors you want to view.
  2. On the View tab, in the Views group, click the View dropdown and select Path to Task. The Path to/from Task Options dialog appears.
  3. Specify whether you want to include all tasks, or only those that are linked by driving links, then click OK. The current view is toggled into 'path to task' mode, and the menu command appears selected.

Note the following points about the 'path to task' mode:

  • Note that you cannot display the current view in 'path to task' mode if it is currently displayed in 'jagged progress' mode.
  • When you display a view in 'path to task' mode, the Predecessors & Successors table is applied to the view. In Asta Enterprise projects, each user has their own copy of this table, and any changes that you make to the table are saved in your own version of it. As with other types of view, you can apply different tables to a view when in 'path to task' mode and you can specify which table to apply to the 'path to task', 'path from task' and 'predecessors and successors' modes by default using the View Properties dialog.

Select the Path to Task command again to toggle the current view out of 'path to task' mode and back into normal mode.
