Saving a project

To save your changes to the active project, click the File tab, then click Save. The project is saved to the local file or server-mounted data source that you chose when starting the project.

If you are logged into the project as the top-level user, you can save the project under a different name, or in a different location. To save your project under a different name or in a different location:

  1. Click the File tab, then click Save As.
  2. Specify where you want to save the active project:
    • Click This PC to save the active project in a folder on your PC or on a mapped network drive, using either the standard Asta Powerproject file format or a different file format.
    • Click Enterprise to save the active project in a server-mounted data source. You can only save to a server-mounted data source if you are running Asta Enterprise.
  3. A navigable folder list, or a navigable list of data sources and projects appears. Navigate around the list to the location in which you want to save the project.
  4. Enter a name with which to save the project.
  5. If you are saving the project to a folder on your PC or on a mapped network drive, select the file format with which to save the project in the field below the file name.

You can choose to save a project in a previous file format so that it can be opened in an earlier version of Asta Powerproject, or in Asta Easyplan format so that it can be opened in Asta Easyplan.
  6. Click Save to save the project.

You can also save a project under a different name or in a different location by clicking the File tab, clicking Save As then clicking Browse, and using the Save As dialog to specify how and where to save the project.

If you save a copy of a project with embedded baselines under a different name, or in a different location, the embedded baselines will be saved with the project and will be available in the new copy of the project; if you save a project using a different or previous file format, the embedded baselines will not be saved with the project.

If you save a copy of a project containing an embedded baseline that has been opened from a network drive which has since become inaccessible, you are warned that the baseline is not available - project information is saved in memory, but baseline information is not, so Asta Powerproject needs to refer to the original file to save a copy of the baseline. If you choose to continue with saving a copy of the project, the copy is saved without the baseline. When you subsequently open the copy of the project, you are warned that the baseline is missing and you are given the chance to search for the baseline in another file. You can then select the original project, to copy the baseline information into the copy of the project from which it is missing.

When you save a project, the project remains open on screen so that you can continue editing it.

If you do not have read access to the whole project, when using Save As you can only save the project to the same data source or to a .PP file which will be encrypted with your username and/or password. This prevents you from opening the project in another program and gaining access to areas to which you should not have rights.
