Categorising tables

You can use table definition categories to classify the table definitions in your project. You create table definition categories in Library Explorer. You can create as many table definition categories as you like, then place individual table definitions into appropriate categories.

Categorising table definitions in this way makes it easier to find the table definition you are looking for, for example when selecting a table to apply to the current view. Whenever you select a table, they are arranged into their categories, with any table definitions that do not belong to a category being displayed below the table definition categories that do exist.

To create a new table definition category:

  1. Open Library Explorer.
  2. Open the Table Definition Category library. All existing table definition categories appear in the list view.
  3. Right-click a blank area of the list view and select New Table Definition Category. A new table definition category appears in the list, with the cursor flashing in the Name column.
  4. Enter a name for the table definition category and press Enter.
  5. Close Library Explorer.

You can now assign the category that you have created to table definitions within the project. To assign a category to a table definition:

  1. On the View tab, in the View Data group, click the Table dropdown and select More Tables. The More Tables dialog appears.
  2. If the table that you want to place within the category is currently within a different table definition category, select the table definition category that is currently assigned to the table in the Category field.
  3. Select the table to which you want to assign the category and click Properties. The Table Definition Properties dialog is displayed.
  4. Select the table definition category that you want to assign to the table in the Category field.
  5. Click OK.

If you no longer require a table definition category in a project, you can delete it in Library Explorer. Note that before you can delete a table definition category you must first assign a different category to any tables to which the category that you want to delete is currently assigned.
