Asta Powerproject's file format
Unless you use Asta Enterprise, Asta Powerproject projects are saved by default in Asta Powerproject's own file format, with a .PP extension, for example PROJECT.PP. You can choose to save projects in a number of file formats. You select the file format you want to use using the Save as type field on the Save As dialog.
If you are using Asta Powerproject as a client connected to an Enterprise server, you can also save your projects to any database on the server (a server-mounted database or data source), which is in Microsoft SQL ServerĀ® format. Refer to the Server Admin Help for details on setting up data sources.
You can only open projects that have been saved to a database on the server if you are using Asta Enterprise.

When you save projects in Asta Powerproject standalone or in Asta Powerproject SaaS, each project is saved into a separate file. Each .PP file contains one project. Each project can contain further subprojects or subcharts:

When you save projects in Asta Powerproject as a client connected to an Enterprise server, you can save each project locally in an individual .PP file, or into a server-mounted database or data source. Each server-mounted database contains one or more group projects, each of which can contain one or more projects. Each project can contain further subprojects or subcharts:

Library objects such as resources, calendars and codes are shared across a group project. For example, a resource that you create for one project can be used by any other project in the same project group.
The System Administrator creates data sources using the Server Admin application. If you create projects that need to share library objects, make sure you save them to the same data source.
