Using histograms to graph activity days and task work
As well as using histograms to graph the usage of resources or costs you can use them to graph the days on which activities are scheduled during a project - "activity days" - and task work.
To graph activity days or task work in a histogram, you must select Task, either in the histogram pane resource selector or in the Resources field, on the Details tab of the Format Histogram dialog:
You must then select a suitable histogram report, either in the histogram pane report selector, either in the histogram pane report selector or in the Report field, on the Details tab of the Format Histogram dialog. The histogram report you select must contain one of the following resource graph definitions.
Resource graph definitions suitable for graphing activity days
When generating a histogram to graph activity days, select a histogram report that uses one of the following resource graph definitions:
- Allocation() - Graphs the days on which tasks are scheduled, when Task is selected in the histogram pane's resource selector, rather than resources or cost centres. This enables you to produce an "activity days" graph.
- Allocation(TODATE) - Produces a cumulative graph of the days on which tasks are scheduled, when Task is selected in the histogram pane's resource selector, rather than resources or cost centres. The final value of this graph is the total duration in days of all tasks.
- AreaUnder(Allocation()) - As above.
When graphing the days on which activities are scheduled, summary tasks, expanded tasks, milestones and hammocks are excluded.
Resource graph definitions suitable for graphing task work
When generating a histogram to graph task work, select a histogram report that uses one of the following resource graph definitions:
- AllocatedWork() - Graphs the allocated work of the tasks in the view, when Task is selected in the histogram pane's resource selector, rather than resources or cost centres.
- AllocatedWork(TODATE) - Produces a cumulative graph of the allocated work of the tasks in the view, when Task is selected in the histogram pane's resource selector, rather than resources or cost centres.
- AreaUnder(AllocatedWork()) - As above.
