Deleting baselines
If you no longer want to use a baseline with a project, you can delete it. The method of deletion varies depending on whether you are working with a local project or an Enterprise project, and - for local projects - whether the baseline is embedded or exists as a separate file. A graphical indicator - - is displayed in the Name column in the Baseline/What If Manager dialog for any baselines that are embedded. This makes it easy to identify which baselines are embedded and which exist as separate files.
Once a baseline has been deleted, the information it contained is no longer available. If you want to retain the information from a baseline for reference purposes, but still delete it from a project, export the baseline to a separate file before you delete it.

Embedded baselines do not exist as separate files; their data is stored within the corresponding project file itself. Deleting such a baseline removes the links to the baseline from the project and deletes the baseline data from the project file.
To delete an embedded baseline from a local project:
- On the Project tab, in the Properties group, click Baseline Manager. The Baseline/What If Manager appears.
- Select the baseline that you want to delete, then click Delete.
- You are warned that you should export the baseline to a separate file before deleting the baseline if you want to retain the data from the baseline. Click OK to continue, or click Cancel to cancel the deletion. If you choose to continue, the baseline is marked for deletion, but is not yet deleted.
- Click Close or Apply. A warning appears to inform you that deleting a baseline cannot be undone. Click OK to delete the baseline, or click Cancel to cancel the deletion.

Non-embedded baselines exist in files that are separate to the corresponding project. Deleting such a baseline removes the links to the baseline from the project and deletes the baseline file itself.
To delete a non-embedded baseline from a local project:
- On the Project tab, in the Properties group, click Baseline Manager. The Baseline/What If Manager appears.
- Select the baseline that you want to delete, then click Delete. The baseline is marked for deletion, but is not yet deleted.
- Click Close or Apply. A warning appears to inform you that deleting a baseline cannot be undone. Click OK to delete the baseline, or click Cancel to cancel the deletion.
Do not attempt to delete non-embedded baselines by simply deleting the baseline file - for example, using Windows® Explorer - as this does not remove the links to the baseline from the project and would result in error messages informing you that the baseline cannot be found.

Baselines in Asta Enterprise projects are stored in a data source on an Enterprise server. Deleting such a baseline removes the links to the baseline from the project but does not delete the baseline data from the data source; this is so that any copies of an Enterprise project that share the baseline can still access the data. If you want to delete the baseline data itself from the data source, you must do this separately.
To delete a baseline from an Asta Enterprise project:
- On the Project tab, in the Properties group, click Baseline Manager. The Baseline/What If Manager appears.
- Select the baseline that you want to delete, then click Delete. The baseline is marked for deletion, but is not yet deleted.
- Click Close. A warning appears to inform you that deleting a baseline cannot be undone. Click OK to delete the baseline, or click Cancel to cancel the deletion. If you choose to continue, the links to the baseline are removed from the project, but the baseline data is not deleted from the data source.
If you want to delete the baseline data from the data source, first make sure that no copies of the Asta Enterprise project have been made that may share the baseline. If you are sure that it is safe to delete the baseline data, from the File tab, click Delete. The Delete dialog appears. Select the baseline data in the dialog and click Delete.
