All Elecosoft software is subject to copyright control. You need a valid licence for each computer on which you run an item of Elecosoft software.
Depending on the way in which you use Elecosoft software, it may be licensed in a variety of ways:
If you use a standalone version of Elecosoft software, you need a licence for each computer on which the software is installed.
In order to obtain a licence, you must activate the software on each individual computer on which the software is installed. If you have an Internet connection, you can activate the software automatically over the Internet. If you do not have an Internet connection, you can activate the software manually with the aid of Elecosoft's Technical Support department. Activating the software over the Internet is quicker and easier than activating it via the Technical Support department.
You can move a licence from one computer to another if required. This is useful when you want to stop using the software on one computer and start using it on another, for example when you upgrade to a new computer. Note that you cannot use Asta Licence Manager to move standalone licences from one computer to another; you do this using the client application itself.
You can also loan some types of licence from one computer to another temporarily. This is useful if you want to use the software on another computer for a short time. For example, you may want to use the software on a laptop or home computer while you are working away from your office.
For full details of activating standalone versions of Elecosoft software, refer to the client application online Help.
If you have a pool of network licences available on a licence server, you need a network licence for each computer that will use the software at the same time. For example, if a maximum of twenty computers will use Elecosoft software together, you need twenty licences.
As with standalone licences, you must activate the software on each individual computer on which the software is installed, and you can do this automatically over the Internet or manually with the aid of Elecosoft's Technical Support department. However, with network licences there is an additional step to the activation process: you must specify the computer on which the licence server is located so that each individual computer can obtain a licence from the licence server. If all available licences are currently in use, the computer cannot use the software.
You can loan some types of licence from a licence server to a standalone computer. This is useful if you want to use the software temporarily on another computer, for example a laptop or home computer while you are working away from your office.
Elecosoft software can use a variety of licensing methods at the same time. For example, you may have one computer that has its own Asta Powerproject licence, that is also connected to a licence server. If this is the case, the computer uses its own licence, rather than using one of the server's available network licences.
Note that if a licence server, or one or more Elecosoft software clients such as Asta Powerproject, is installed on a virtual machine, a number of restrictions, mostly relating to moving and loaning licences, apply.
